Kombucha Tea

Kombucha Tea.

We’ve just taken delivery of two Kombucha teas from Glastonbury Ferments and, if you’d like to sample them, I’ve got a couple of bottles open for tasting in the shop this week.

So, what is Kombucha?

In its simplest terms, Kombucha is a fermented tea – two teas in this case, a gunpowder green tea for the hibiscus and ginger and a black pu’ehr tea for the hops with citrus.

Kombucha is made by a process of natural fermentation that utilises tea, sugar, bacteria and yeast. This process increases the nutritional value of the vitamins, minerals and enzymes, whilst making them easier for your body to digest.

And, being a probiotic culture, Kombucha helps to populate your digestive system with the “friendly” bacteria that we’re hearing so much about these days.

So that means that, by drinking Kombucha tea, you’ll be making a direct, positive contribution to your overall health and well-being.

Plus, it tastes pretty good, too! (If you look on their website, they’ve teamed up the hibiscus and ginger with gin and ice to produce a rather delicious cocktail.)

So here it is…

Taking Care Of Your Prostate

I found the following report about taking care of your prostate on line and thought it covered this topic extremely well. It’s written by  H. K. Jones who is a registered dietitian, freelance writer, and nutrition professional based in Washington, D.C.

It includes a simple quiz that you can take to see why you should be taking care of your prostate. It’s towards the end of this rather lengthy article & I would give you a direct link – but it’s better that you read all the way through!

Prostate 101: Taking Care of Your Prostate

By H.K. Jones

All jokes about latex gloves and ice-cold lube aside, if you were to name the top 10 things most men—gay and straight—would rather just avoid, prostate exams would be high on the list. But there’s no good excuse to ignore the walnut-sized gland that forms part of the normal male reproductive system.

Located just below the bladder, the prostate’s primary function is the production of fluid in semen; it also contains some smooth muscles that help expel semen during ejaculation, and its stimulation plays an important role in the so-called “male g spot” of receptive anal sex.

But this small gland is also prone to inflammation and disease, particularly in older men. Three main problems can occur in the prostate gland: infection, enlargement, and cancer. Here’s what you need to know today, to protect your prostate tomorrow.

5 Foods To Improve Your Prostate Health

5 Foods to improve your prostate health

This is a post I originally wrote in 2011 ! It’s still as relevant today as it was then.

Good prostate health is supported by a variety of foods rich in nutrients that are often considered to be “super foods”.

And it’s not just a trendy term, these really are super foods and doctors will often recommend diets based around these foods as they do such a good job of keeping your prostate healthy.

However, doctors generally only get to recommend things that help with prostate problems when you actually know (and admit) that there is a problem.

Ensuring that you include these following 5 types of food in your regular diet will help to keep that visit to the doctor (and the need for the dreaded Digital Rectal Examination!!) at bay.
